The Crookston Pirate Boys Basketball team led by nine points over halfway through the first half, but the Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Rebels went on a 12-2 run to take the lead for good as they pulled away for a 73-45 victory in a Section 8AA matchup in Glyndon.
FIRST HALF –
DGF jumped out to a 4-1 lead before Crookston responded with eight straight points. Carter Fee made a three-pointer, Reggie Winjum had a basket, and Fee followed with another three-pointer for a 9-4 lead four minutes into the game. DGF made a basket before Gunnar Groven nailed a three-pointer. After a DGF basket, Josh Hesby made a long two-pointer, and Groven hit a jump shot for a 16-8 lead. After a Rebel basket, the Pirates’ Fee made a long three-pointer for a 19-10 lead with 10:20 left in the half. Crookston led 21-12 after a Nolan Johnson basket when DGF went on a 12-2 run over a five-minute span to take a 26-23 lead with 3:34 to go in the half. Crookston’s Fee stopped the run with a jump shot before DGF answered with six straight points for a 32-25 lead. Crookston’s Winjum scored, but DGF’s Jake Dawson ended the half with a basket for a 34-27 lead.
Crookston turned the ball over 15 times in the half.
SECOND HALF –
DGF started the second half on an 11-2 run to take a 43-29 lead three minutes into the half. Crookston’s Gunnar Groven ended the Rebel run with a three-point play, but DGF countered with a six point run for a 48-32 lead. Crookston’s Fee responded with five straight points to get within a 48-37 deficit seven minutes into the half. Once again, DGF went on a run and this time it was a 15-3 run over a six minute span for a 63-40 lead. Crookston’s Winjum made a basket to stop the run, but the Rebels answered with five more points for a 68-41 lead with 90 seconds left. There was a bunch of scoring in the final 90 seconds and DGF won 73-48.
Crookston turned the ball over 15 times in each half for a total of 30 turneovers in the game.
Crookston drops to 0-11 on the year and will host Lake Park-Audubon on Tuesday night. The game will be on KROX TV. DGF improves to 8-5 on the year.
