The Crookston Pirate Boys Basketball team had a terrible start to the game but had an outstanding finish to take a lead into halftime, but the East Grand Forks Green Wave were too strong in the second half and pulled away for a 70-50 victory in a Section 8AA game played in East Grand Forks.
FIRST HALF
East Grand Forks was red hot to start the game and took a 13-0 lead and things weren’t looking good for Crookston. Things changed pretty quickly when Tanner Giese came off the bench and got things going for the Pirates. Before you knew it, Crookston went on a 26-10 run to take a 26-23 lead going into halftime.
SECOND HALF –
East Grand Forks started the second half on a 25-10 run to take a 48-36 lead. The Green Wave would continue their solid play as they built a 56-40 lead halfway through the half. East Grand Forks continued to slowly build on their lead and took a 69-46 lead with 90-seconds left in the game. Crookston outscored the Green Wave in the final seconds to get within a 70-50 deficit at the end of the game.
Crookston drops to 3-16 on the year and will host Thief River Falls on Friday.
East Grand Forks improves to 10-9 on the year.
