The Crookston Area Chamber and Crookston Housing and Economic Development Authority (CHEDA) are partnering with local businesses to give residents Chamber Bucks for shopping local between March 30 and April 30. People who submit their receipts to the Crookston Chamber will receive $10 in Chamber Bucks for each $100 spent up to $500 per household.
Chamber Executive Director Terri Heggie said there are a lot of Chamber Bucks out in the community, so they are providing an incentive for spending those. “The Crookston Chamber and CHEDA are partnering together on a promotion to encourage local purchases in our area,” said Heggie. “As you know, Chamber Bucks have been around for many years. Looking back in 2018, we sold over $16,000, and in 2019 we sold over $13,000. This year we’ve sold over $3,500. So, there are plenty of Chamber Buck dollars out there to be spent. We decided to help those individuals that have Chamber Bucks and our businesses, and we are doing a little incentive.”
Chamber Bucks, regular purchases, gift cards, and certificates can all be used during this program, according to Heggie, who said receipts should be dropped off at the Chamber Office. “We want you to save your receipts from local purchases starting March 30 through April 30,” said Heggie. “Put them in an envelope with your name, number, and address on them. Put them in our mailbox outside the door of the Chamber office at 103 S. Broadway. When we gather the receipts, we will make sure we promptly send you out a Chamber Buck amount for the amount you submitted. For every $100 in receipts, we’ll send you $10 in Chamber Bucks. This goes up to $500 per household. Gift cards and certificates from various businesses qualify for this as well.”
Heggie said most chamber businesses are considered essential in the community. “We do have to exclude alcohol and tobacco from Chamber Bucks,” said Heggie. “We definitely want you to continue to support local. We want you to continue to support local. We say this all the time, but it is necessary now, more than ever. Looking through our list of chamber members out there, many of these businesses are still open and considered essential businesses. The name of the business goes on the “pay to the order of” line. Chamber Bucks cannot be redeemed for cash nor can they be deposited to your bank account. Chamber Bucks’ may be spent the same as cash. Gift Card and Gift Certificate purchases encouraged as well!
