CROOKSTON CITY COUNCIL APPROVES HIRING RYAN LINDTWED AS FINANCE DIRECTOR/TREASURER

The Crookston City Council met on Monday night and approved City Administrator Amy Finch’s recommendation to hire Ryan Lindtwed as the new City of Crookston Finance Director/Treasurer.

Councilman Dylane Klatt said he’s known Lindtwed for a long time and thinks he’ll be a good fit with the city. And Mayor Dale Stainbrook said he sat in on the interview and thought Lindtwed was very well-rounded. Finch said his employment will begin the day of the next council meeting. “Ryan Lindtwed is a local Crookston resident,” said Finch. “He will be starting with us on March 8. He has worked in the finance/accounting industry for nearly 30 years. He has worked in various industries where certain regulations need to be learned. He has not had specific municipal experience, but with his ability to adapt to other industries, I don’t see any problems or struggles for him to get on board with municipal finance.”

Finch added that she believes Lindtwed will be a good fit among the city’s leadership. “He has a strong skill set in finance and accounting,” said Finch. “But, he also has good character and leadership skills, and the right personality that I think will complement our leadership team. He’ll be a good leader for our finance department. I think he will be very reliable, dependable, and I’m really excited for him to get started.”

The City Council also approved the consent agenda, including the execution of deeds on 110 Lincoln Avenue and the property for the Ag Innovation Campus, along with bills and disbursements totaling $605,414.78, and accepting the recommendation to proceed with 2021 street improvements from the Planning Commission.

They also passed a resolution decommissioning runway 6/24 at the airport as had been required by the Federal Aviation Administration to continue to receive federal funding (here). And provided a written summary (below) of the closed City Council meeting on February 17. Finch said as a result of that meeting, city staff will begin investigating terms and options for the acquisition of the 60 acres east of Eickhof Blvd from Bob Herkenhoff. “On the 17th, we met in closed session to discuss the proposed purchase of real property,” said Finch. “We discussed terms, and the City Council gave direction on a cap they’d like us to move forward with.  We are now investigating what terms and options are available to bring back to them for consideration at a later time.”

Finch also announced that the second City Council strategic planning session would be held next week, which she hopes will be similar to the discussion last week. “We tried something a little bit different this year. Instead of meeting on a Saturday for a full day, we’re trying two two-hour sessions,” said Finch. “We stayed on target with our time, but we covered a lot of topics. A lot of good discussions were brought up. It was a good, thoughtful, respectful, energized discussion. On Monday, March 1, we are meeting for another two-hour strategic planning session from 6-8 p.m. Those are open to the public, so I invite people to attend or listen. I will be putting out a memo as I did Thursday, recapping some of the things we talk about. But, excited about it. I think it was a good conversation. I hope we have a similar discussion and get some good ideas out of it.”

The Ways & Means Committee moved the appointment of Jeremy Olson to the open seat on the Charter Commission to the next City Council meeting.
