The Crookston City Council held a special meeting on Monday night inside the City Hall Council Chambers to conduct Crookston City Administrator Amy Finch’s performance review. The meeting was a closed session. It was also an opportunity for Finch to address the Council on ways they could help her.
Crookston Mayor Dale Stainbrook talked about the process and some of the discussion that was had. “We had an evaluation sheet that each council member filled out and got back to me before the meeting tonight,” said Stainbrook. “From there, we reviewed the pros and cons of the evaluation together. We also walked through the evaluation with Amy and had her answer some questions and concerns. It was essentially reviewing how she has done her job in the past year and areas the council feels she could improve on.”
Finch started as Crookston City Administrator in October of 2020, making this her first performance review. Finch came to Crookston from Ottawa, Kansas, where she worked as the City Clerk.
Mayor Stainbrook said the Council came to the agreement and consensus that Finch did a great job in her role this past year. “Overall, she got an excellent review from the council,” said Stainbrook. “We asked as a Council what we could do for her, and she was upfront with that as well. It went very well, and the Council agreed that Amy is the right person for our city at this time.”
Mayor Stainbrook also said there are a few areas of concern the Council addressed with Finch. “I can’t say much until the tape from the closed session can be public,” said Stainbrook. “But a few things that have been brought up in the past is the Ways & Means Committee and the strategy sessions moving forward that we want to have when it comes to moving our city forward. We aren’t going to fly by the seat of our pants by any means. We want to know what people’s wants and needs are so that we aren’t just going to fly by the seat of our pants when it comes to making important decisions about moving our city forward, and that was communicated tonight.”
Crookston City Attorney Corky Reynolds was also in attendance and took notes during the meeting for the summary on Finch from the City Council. The summary of the review will be read by Mayor Dale Stainbrook at the next City Council meeting on Monday, December 13.
