CROOKSTON CITY COUNCIL TO DECLARE EMERGENCY, LOOKING FOR SANDBAGGERS

The Crookston City Council will hold a special meeting at 1:00 p.m. today (Saturday, April 23) in the City Hall Council Chambers.  

The council is meeting to declare an emergency due to the rising Red Lake River in and around Crookston after the rain from Friday.  

Crookston Police Chief Darin Selzler sent out the following press release just after noon on Saturday (April 23)-

The Crookston area received more rain than anticipated over the last 24 hours which has significantly impacted the Red Lake River water levels.  The current river level is at or just over 20 feet.  The City of Crookston Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is open and is actively monitoring the river levels.  Additional rain and increased river levels are anticipated to rise over the weekend.     

The EOC is asking for volunteers to help fill sandbags and for help sandbagging vulnerable areas of the levees.  Filling sandbags is starting today, April 23, at 12:00 pm and will occur indoors.  Volunteers are asked to arrive at the City of Crookston Street Shop located at 319 3rd Ave South.
