TWO CROOKSTON BUSINESSES ARE BEHIND ON THEIR LOAN PAYMENTS, HOTEL VALUES TO GO DOWN

The City of Crookston committee for Development Policy and Review met over the noon hour on Thursday.  City of Crookston Finance Director and acting chair for the committee Angel Weasner provided an update on the Intermediary Relending Program (IRP).

Two businesses are currently behind in their payment T & N Sports (Siegle Sports) and Crookston Inn, but Weasner has been in contact with them regarding the process to return to good standing.  “IRP loans are business loans that the City gives to local business,” said Weasner.  “They are either expanding or starting a new business in town. I monitor the loans very closely. I have been in contact with the couple that are a little behind.  They are being informed of what the process is.”

Mark Landsverk, Polk County Assessor and a member of the committee did inform the committee that a review of the Crookston hotels had been completed and they would be seeing lower tax valuations for 2019.

In December the committee recommended to the Crookston City Council that the City of Crookston apply for additional funding from the USDA for it’s IRP program.  Weasner handed out a work plan to the committee for review and said it would need to be approved by the committee at their next meeting and submitted with the funding application. “At the last meeting the committee had recommended to council to move forward requesting additional funds from the USDA,” said Weasner.  “The council agreed with that, so we have been moving forward.  This committee needs to review our work plan, and it needs to be submitted with our application.  Next month we will consider all recommendations for our work plan and submit it to the USDA with our application.”

The final item of business was to elect a new committee chair.  Matt Hann, Vice President at Northern Sky Bank, was nominated and elected to serve as chair.
