CROOKSTON FIRE DEPARTMENT HOSTS ITS ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE

The Crookston Fire Department held its annual Open House today. The department usually holds the event in the fall, but this year was the first year that it was held in May.

Giving more details on the situation is Fire Fighter Brian Hanson, “Sugar beet season is always in October, that’s when fire prevention week is, and so we’ve always kind of battled losing firefighters to the area farmers which I know I haul sugar beets myself,” Hanson continues, “So it’s something that has to be done, what we did this year was we changed the date to the end of May right before school is out to kind of promote fire safety in the summertime too.”

Overall, the change was a success. The fire department still plans to do activities for Fire Prevention Week and work with the schools this fall.

Despite some questionable weather conditions earlier in the morning, the event seemed to be a hit. Hanson explains, “The weather turned out to be a good thing for us this year.” Hanson mentions further, “We had a little bit of showers here this morning, but the sun is out, and people are starting to come through. We are having a good turnout.”

In final comments, Hanson reaches out to those who didn’t attend, “For those that didn’t attend, we missed you, but at the same time, the fire department is here 24 hours a day, 365 days a year”, Hanson continues, “If you ever need anything give us a call we can lead you in the right direction.”
