CROOKSTON GIRL’S BASKETBALL COAST TO A WIN AT FERTILE-BELTRAMI

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Basketball team used a 13-0 run in the first half to build a 40-16 lead at halftime and never looked back as they beat the Fertile-Beltrami Falcons 70-35 in a game played in Fertile.

FIRST HALF
Crookston jumped out to an 18-8 lead after an Emma Boll layup with 12:42 left in the half.  The Pirates led 21-11 with 11 minutes left and picked up their defense and went on a 13-0 run to build a 34-11 lead late in the half. “We did everything well during that stretch.  We were getting deflection after deflection or steal after steal,” said Pirate Coach Darin Zimmerman. “Defensively we were able to turn them over and turn that into transition baskets.  In the half-court offense, we were a lot better tonight.” The teams played even in the final minutes and Crookston took a 40-16 lead into halftime.

SECOND HALF
Crookston took a 51-21 lead with 12:17 left in the game and took the defensive pressure off and the teams played even the rest of the game and the Pirates won 70-35.  “We might not have been as sharp in the second half,” said Coach Zimmerman. “We tried a few different things and were out of position a few times.  Overall, we still executed well even if we didn’t have the intensity we had in the first half.  Fertile-Beltrami has some girls that can shoot well, they are strong kids and they attacked the offensive glass.  It was a good team effort and the team played well and we have improved in all three games so that is great to see.”

Crookston improves to 2-1 on the year and will travel to Park Rapids on Thursday (you can hear the game on KROX Radio).
