The Crookston Pirate Girls Basketball team battled, but the East Grand Forks Green Wave’s Tatem Votova made her first six three-pointers on her way to a 31 point night on the way to an 88-60 victory in a Section 8AA game at the Crookston High School gymnasium.
FIRST HALF –
It was a low-scoring first four minutes and East Grand Forks jumped out to an 8-2 lead with a basket from Emma Marcott and after a Pirate basket, the Green Wave’s McKaylee Fitzpatrick scored six straight points for the six-point lead. Crookston’s Madi Bruggeman scored in the paint only to bring the Pirates within an 8-4 deficit. EGF answered with an Ellie Marcott basket and a Tatem Votava three. Crookston’s Halle Nicholas and Brooklyn Waldal responded with a basket each before the Green Wave’s Votava made another three for a 16-8 lead seven minutes into the game. Crookston’s Chloe Boll made two frees throw only to have Votava answer with five straight points for a 21-10 lead. East Grand Forks had a 26-14 lead after another Votova three-pointer, but the Pirates Grace Boll made a three, Chloe Boll added five straight points to cap an 8-0 run to get Crookston within a 26-22 deficit with 6:24 remaining in the half. East Grand Forks responded with five straight points from Taylor Bergh and after a Pirate basket, McKaylee Fitzpatrick made a basket before Votova made two more three-pointers for a 39-24 lead, capping a 13-2 run. The teams played even the rest of the half and East Grand Forks took a 53-36 lead into halftime.
SECOND HALF –
Crookston came out strong to start the second half as the teams exchanged baskets for the first two minutes before Crookston’s Chloe Boll made a three-pointer and Joey Nesseth had two nice post moves for baskets to get within a 57-47 deficit. East Grand Forks responded with seven straight points as Camryn Adams had five and Votava added a basket for a 64-47 lead. Crookston couldn’t get any kind of run the rest of the game as the got within a 67-54 deficit with 9:31 to go, but Lanee Hams made a free throw and Votava added five points and that sparked a 20-6 run the rest of the game and the Green Wave won the game 88-60.
Crookston drops to 5-12 on the year and will travel to Barnesville on Friday at 7:30 p.m. East Grand Forks improves to 10-7 on the year.
