The Park Rapids Panthers started the game on a 16-2 run and ended the game on a 10-3 run to beat the Crookston Pirate Girls Basketball team 56-50 in a Section 8AA game played at the Crookston High School gymnasium.
FIRST HALF
Park Rapids had a great start to the game as they went on a 16-2 run. The run started with Molly Cederstrom making a layup off the opening tap. After a Crookston free throw, Park Rapids’ Emma Morris scored five straight points for a 7-1 lead while forcing a Crookston timeout. Crookston made another free throw before Cederstrom made a basket, and Vivian Shepersky capped the run with seven straight points for a 16-2 lead. Crookston finally scored their first basket seven minutes into the game when Grace Boll scored with 10:34 left in the half. Park Rapids led 22-6 when Crookston went on a 9-0 run. Chloe Boll scored four points, Brooklyn Waldal had three, and Halle Nicholas added a basket to get within a 22-15 deficit. The teams exchanged baskets before Park Rapids ended the half on a 10-4 run to take a 32-19 lead into halftime.
Crookston only made 8 of 22 free throw attempts in the half, while Park Rapids did not shoot a free throw.
SECOND HALF
Crookston looked like a completely different team to start the second half, going on a 10-0 run. Chloe Boll and Waldal each scored four points, and Nicholas added a basket to get within a 32-29 deficit. Park Rapids’ first points of the half came from Adrienne Cook on a basket in the paint. The teams exchanged baskets for a while, and Park Rapids led 44-39 with seven minutes remaining. Crookston’s Chloe Boll scored four straight points to get the Pirates within one point. After a Park Rapids basket, Chloe made another basket, and Madi Bruggeman scored in the paint to give the Pirates a 47-46 lead. Crookston’s momentum didn’t last long as Park Rapids scored the next four points and ended the game on a 10-3 run to win the game 56-50.
Crookston was 12-28 from the free throw line in the game.
Crookston drops to 3-9 on the year. Park Rapids improves to 4-6 on the year.
