Crookston Girls Basketball falls to DGF

The Crookston Pirate Girls’ Basketball team was outscored 44-13 in the first half and the Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Rebels cruised to a 65-33 victory in a Section 8AA matchup at the Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton High School gymnasium in Glyndon.

FIRST HALF –
DGF started the game in a zone defense and also a half-court trap and started the game on a 7-0 run while taking advantage of several Crookston turnovers. Crookston finally got on the board when Grace Boll grabbed an offensive rebound and passed to Chloe Boll, who hit a long jump shot to get within a 7-2 deficit. DGF continued its domination by scoring 18 straight points to take a 25-2 lead over the first eight minutes into the game. Crookston stopped the run with another Chloe Boll basket to get within a 25-4 deficit with 9:52 left in the half. After a DGF basket, Crookston’s Chloe Boll rattled home a three-pointer, and on the next trip down the floor, Joey Nesseth had a nice bounce pass into Naomi Johnson for a layup to get within a 27-9 deficit. DGF bounced back with seven points for a 34-9 lead with six minutes to go in the half. The Rebel’s Aria Garrett scored 19 of 34 points. Crookston’s Chloe Boll made another basket for her ninth point of the game  DGF answered with five straight points before Chloe Boll made another basket. Chloe scored 11 of the Pirate’s 13 first-half points, and DGF took a 44-13 lead into halftime.

SECOND HALF –
Crookston had a better start to the second half as Nesseth had a strong take to the basket to score the first points of the half. The Pirates kept fighting and Chloe Boll took the ball to the basket and made a short jump shot to get within a 44-17 deficit. After a DGF basket, Naomi Johnson answered with a basket. DGF responded with an 8-0 run. Crookston stopped the run with a basket by Nesseth to get within a 54-21 deficit over five minutes into the half. There wasn’t any scoring for several minutes until Crookston’s Chloe Boll made another basket and had 15 of her team’s 23 points.  Brooklyn Waldal added a free throw, and after a DGF basket, Chloe Boll added two free throws and trailed 56-26 with less than six minutes remaining. DGF added five more points for a 63-28 lead with less than four minutes to go with running time. DGF rolled the rest of the way as they won the game 65-33. 

Crookston drops to 7-18 on the year and will “host” Park Rapids on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Ada-Borup-West High School gymnasium at 1:00 p.m. DGF improves to 20-4 on the year.
