CROOKSTON GIRL’S GOLF WINS TRF INVITE, DANI BOYLE MEDALIST

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Golf team won its second tournament of the week at the Thief River Falls Invitational played at the Thief River Falls Golf Club. The Pirates shot a combined 382 finishing 17-strokes ahead of runner-up Roseau. Danielle Boyle led the way shooting 86 to earn medalist honors for Crookston besting Thief River Falls Kaitlyn Hagevold’s second-place finish with a 91.

In addition to winning the tournament for the second time this week, the Pirates also boasted the medalist winner after Danielle Boyle turned in an 86 beating the rest of the field by five strokes. “For (Danielle Boyle) to shoot in the 80s in these conditions is, I think, a huge accomplishment,” said Crookston head coach Jeff Perreault. “Hopefully it will build some confidence because if she can score in that kind of weather she can score in anything. With Dannie, she was hitting the ball well off the tee all day. That was her strength. She missed a few things around the greens, but she was long off the tees and that really put her in position to score well today.” Joslynn Leach carded Crookston’s second-best round with a 97 besting teammate Hannah Street by one stroke. Bailey Cameron and Hannah Brouse both rounded out the Pirates top four scores with each shooting a 101. “When it’s conditions like this, they hurry,” said Perreault of his team. “We definitely left some strokes out there. That’s obvious when there are conditions like this. It just kind of makes you go down into focus and get the heck out of here mode, and I think sometimes they maybe play too quickly.” Sophia Rezac was the final Crookston golfer in the field turning in a 119. “They found a way to win,” explained Perreault. “I just have to give them credit. It was miserable. I was out there with them for the first three-quarters of it. The wind was just bitter-cold, as cold as I can remember it. Even though the temperature was a little warmer than it was in East Grand Forks, once the wind gets involved its a whole different game.”

Crookston returns to the links on Monday when the Pirates travel south to Park Rapids and the Headwaters Golf Course for the Park Rapids Invitational starting at 9 a.m.
