CROOKSTON GIRL’S GOLF FINISHES SIXTH AT THE PARK RAPIDS INVITATIONAL

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Golf team battled the cold and wind and shot 425 and finished sixth place out of seven teams at the Park Rapids Invite at Headwaters Golf Course at Park Rapids. The meet was won by Detroit Lakes with a 344, 19 strokes better than Fergus Falls.  “We as a group weren’t happy with our score.  We thought we could have played better,” said Pirate Coach Jeff Perreault. “When it is cold and the wind is blowing and there is a little moisture in the air we have a tendency to play fast.  When you play fast it doesn’t work out for you.  It seemed like we just wanted to get it over with and we were done in about four hours which never happens.”

Crookston was led by Joslynn Leach with a 95, which was good for 13th place.  “She wasn’t happy.  I can’t remember which hole it was but she asked if I could swing around with the suburban and pick me up.  I want to be done.  That isn’t like her and she was having one of those days,” said Coach Perreault. “I looked at her card and it really wasn’t that bad.  There were only a few bad holes.   She had a four putt and that carried over to the next hole and it was little things like that.”

Hannah Brouse shot a 106, good for the second-lowest score for the Pirates. “Overall it wasn’t too bad and I saw some good things from her,” said Coach Perreault. “She had a great shot out of the bunker and put it right next to the green.  She had a smile on her face and wasn’t to bad overall.”

Grace Fischer shot a 111. “Overall it wasn’t a bad round,” said Coach Perreault. “She did fine off the tee and picked up some strokes around the green and we will get that fixed with some practice this week.”

Halle Nicholas, in her first varsity meet, and Sophia Rezac turned in 113’s.  “Halle had her first varsity meet and I was pleased with her overall score.  She had some holes that were struggles, as you would expect, but she also had a birdie.  I was very happy for her to get the first varsity birdie,” said Coach Perreault. “Sophia wasn’t happy with her score.  She golfed over the weekend and had some nice scores, but she wasn’t feeling it today.  It was on the green and around the green where she struggled the most.”

Morgan Nelson shot a 116 in her first varsity meet of the season.  “She struggled on the green today and three-putted several times,” said Coach Perreault. “She said she needs to work on her putting.  We have some time to work on it and she will see her score go down.”

The Pirates will have the rest of the week to practice.  “We will practice a lot and hopefully by the end of the week we will be better,” said Coach Perreault. “We have some work to do as a team.  It is nice we can practice the rest of the week and hopefully we will be ready to go next week.”

Crookston is scheduled to be at Thief River Falls on Monday, but the Prowlers weren’t able to make the meet today because of COVID precautions.  If the Pirates don’t go to Thief River Falls on Monday, they could possibly go to Detroit Lakes on Tuesday.
