CROOKSTON GIRL’S SOCCER FALLS 3-1 AGAINST HIBBING-CHISHOLM

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Soccer team allowed two second-half goals in a 3-1 loss against Hibbing Chisholm in a non-Section game played on the Crookston High School Soccer Field.

Hibbing-Chisholm struck first in the fifth minute when Ashley Ciochetto scored giving the Bluejackets a 1-0 lead. Crookston tied the game at 1-1 when Sophia Sanders scored off a pass from Cassie Solheim 14:00 into the match. “It was a pass from Kenze (Epema) outside left,” said Crookston head coach Sarah Reese. “There was a tap pass from Cassie Solheim and Sophia Sanders finished with a finesse shot.” Both teams had more scoring opportunities the rest of the half but would remain tied at 1-1 at halftime.

In the second-half, Hibbing-Chisholm took the lead in the 68th minute with a score from Ashley Ciochetto. “In the second half we had a difficult call at the edge of our 18-yard box resulting in a free-kick,” explained Reese. “We thought Reese (Swanson) made a great save by punching the ball our, but unfortunately it was called a goal.” Chiochetto completed her hattrick eight minutes later with a goal securing the Blue Jackets 3-1 win. “In the last six minutes of the game, we took out a defender, added a forward and we were going for a goal and win,” added Reese. “Hibbing snuck one in the goal. Overall, I’m very proud of the girls. They played great. Tomorrow is a new day.”

Crookston falls to 2-12 on the year. The Pirates return to the pitch on Saturday when Crookston hosts Mesabi East at 1:00 P.M. Hibbing-Chisholm improves to 2-8.
