Hibbing-Chisholm Edges Pirate Girls Soccer

The Crookston Pirates Girls’ Soccer team scored its fifth goal of the season before falling 3-1 in a non-section match against Hibbing-Chisholm in a match played in Hibbing.
The Bluejackets jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 16thminute when Marioma Garcia Dalmases fired a shot past Crookston goalkeeper Kylee Meier giving the Pirates a 1-0 lead. 25 minutes into the match when Sydney Jolowsky scored doubling the Bluejackets’ lead to 2-0. Crookston was unable to generate many offensive chances in the first half and failed to score a goal taking a 2-0 deficit into halftime, with Kylee Meier registering five saves in net for the Pirates. “Kylee played great in net,” said Crookston head coach Sarah Reese.
The Pirates pulled within a goal of their opponents seven minutes into the second half when Elise Erdman sent a cross into the box towards the near post that Mackenze Epema fired through traffic and into the net for a Crookston goal cutting the deficit to 2-1. The Bluejackets countered with a third and final goal three minutes later when Sydney Jolowsky scored in the 50thminute giving Hibbing-Chisholm a 3-1 lead. Reese Swanson was active in net in the second half for the Pirates making fourteen saves to keep Crookston in the match, but the Pirates were unable to score a second goal falling 3-1. “Reese was dynamite in goal,” said Reese. “We switched the lineup and garnered more offensive options moving Hannah Emanuel to center midfield, Keona Arnold shifting up to forward and Olivia Huck sliding to outside defense.”
The Pirates fall to 0-11-1 this season and return to the field on Saturday when Crookston plays Mesabi East in Aurora with kick-off at 10 a.m. Hibbing-Chisholm improves to 4-8-1.
