CROOKSTON GIRLS SOCCER SHUTOUT BY HIBBING

The Crookston Pirate Girls Soccer played well, but was shutout in a 2-0 loss to the Hibbing Bluejackets at the Crookston High School Soccer Field.

FIRST HALF –
Crookston and Hibbing were evenly matched and it showed in the first half.  Hibbing had six shots on goal in the half, while Crookston mustered four shots on goal.  Hibbing had some outstanding speed and that gave the Pirates some problems, but the defense and goalie (Reese Swanson) were up to the task while not allowing a shot in the net.
Neither team was able to score and it was a 0-0 tie going into halftime.

SECOND HALF –
Crookston had a good start to the second half as they had a couple of decent scoring opportunities, but the Hibbing speed was able to stop a quality scoring chance.  A little over halfway into the half and Hibbing beat the Pirate defense and Emma Burkes, using her speed, kicked the ball into the net for a 1-0 lead. Hibbing continued to put the pressure on Crookston and rolled a shot on goal and the Pirate goalie couldn’t scoop it up cleanly and it popped loose and Emma Burkes scored the second goal of the game for a 2-0 lead with 1:35 left in the game.

Crookston is to 3-7-3 on the year and will host Mesabi East on Saturday.
