CROOKSTON GIRLS SOCCER SHUTS OUT WALKER-H-A

The Crookston Pirate Girls Soccer team broke their scoring slump as they beat the Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Wolves 4-0 at the Crookston High School Soccer Field.

FIRST HALF –
Crookston started the game strong and controlled the game for most of the half.  Crookston was close to getting that first goal in several games, but they were just off on their passing.  The passing started to click about 15 minutes into game and a couple minutes later the Pirates got their first goal when Miryah Epema scored on a nice pass from Maddie Harbott for a 1-0 lead. The Pirates like scoring so much they did it again a minute later when Reese Swanson (usually the goalie but got to play out of the goal in this game) scored on another beautiful pass from Harbott for a 2-0 lead.
Neither team scored the rest of the way and the Pirates took a 2-0 lead into halftime.  “JoJo (Wallace) and Miryah controlled the center while Adelia Weiland, Kailee Magsam, Nashalie Tellez, and Keona Arnold played great held defense and were offensive threats in their defensive role,” said Pirate Coach Sarah Reese. “Katelyn, McKayla Tahran, and Maddy Knutson stayed wide and used the outside lanes.”

SECOND HALF –
Whatever Pirate Coach Sarah Reese said at halftime got the team fired up because they came out and scored two minutes into the half when Maddie Harbott scored on a nice pass from JoJo Wallace for a commanding 3-0 lead.
Crookston continued to play all facets of the game well and with 13 minutes left in the game Reese Swanson scored her second goal of the evening on a nice pass from Maddie Knutson for a 4-0 lead.   Neither team would score the rest of the way and the Pirates got an important 4-0 section victory.  “It was a great team effort today.  We were first to the ball, with great passing and playmaking,” said Pirate Coach Sarah Reese. “Reese and Maddie (Harbott) were making dynamic runs, the defense was stepping through to intercept passes.  It was an exciting shutout for the Pirates.”

Crookston improves to 3-6-3 on the year and will host Hibbing on Friday.
