CROOKSTON GIRL’S SOCCER PLAYS WELL, FALLS TO DL

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Soccer team played a great game, but came up short in a 1-0 loss to the Detroit Lakes Lakers in a game played in Detroit Lakes.

The only scoring came 17-minutes into the game when Kate Stearns scored to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead.  The teams played even the rest of the half.  Each team had several scoring chances, but both defenses and goalies came up with big stop after big stop.  “Reese Swanson was stellar in net. She was aggressive, had great positioning, it was one of her best games,” said Coach Sarah Reese.
At halftime, the score was 1-0 and the Pirates were excited about the second half. “We told them to keep believing in themselves,” said Coach Reese. “We were both high-caliber teams.”
Neither team was able to score in the second half with a total of nine shots on goal and the defense came up big for Crookston in the 1-0 loss. “Aleah Bienek, JoJo Wallace, Dillynn Wallace, and Olivia Huck had great runs, strong pressure, and help defense.  They were always in the right spot at the right time.”
The midfielders also had high praise from their coach. “Kailee, Clara Meyer, Amelia Overgaard, Maddie Harbott, and Katelyn were passing and finding the open spaces and had high pressure, reducing the ability to turn,” said Coach Reese. “Cassie Solheim, Maddie K, and Ny were making runs and taking shots for us and played well too.”

Crookston drops to 2-3 on the year and will host Walker-Hackensack-Akeley on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.  Detroit Lakes improves to 4-1 on the year.
