CROOKSTON GIRL’S SWIMMERS LOG SOLID TIMES, COME UP SHORT AT FOSSTON-BAGLEY

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Swimming team had some solid times and performances, but Fosston-Bagley ultimately won Thursday’s dual, 51-25 at Fosston High School. “The girls put together a really strong meet,” Crookston head coach Marley Melbye said. “Our team put together 11 season-best times.”

The Pirates took first place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:21.20. The relay team included Claire Oman, Madison Hoiland, Mackenzie Aamoth, and Victoria Proulx. These four went on to take second in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 2:02.55.

Hoiland had another first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:20.43, winning the race by nearly a full 10 seconds. Grace Meiner also competed in the 100 breaststroke and clocked in at 2:03.19, cutting 21 seconds off her previous best time. “If Grace continues to work hard in practice, we hope to see continued drops in her times come Tuesday,” Melbye said.

Oman continued her solid day with a second-place finish in the 200 IM, clocking in at a  new season-best time of 2:51.40. “Claire had a lot of really solid performances in both the 200-yard medley relay, the 200 freestyle relay, and the 200 IM,” Melbye said.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Madison Hoiland came home second with a time of 27.82 seconds – just .18 seconds away from first. In the 100 butterfly, Mackenzie Aamoth came in second at 1:23.35. Aamoth also finished second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:14.81. Both of those times are new season-bests for Aamoth, who had “an extremely good day,” according to Coach Melbye.

The Pirates conclude their regular season on Tuesday when they host Thief River Falls. The dual is set to start at 6 p.m. at the Crookston Community Pool.
