CROOKSTON GIRL’S TENNIS FINISH 2ND AT NORTHWEST QUADRANGULAR

The Crookston Pirate Girls Tennis team had two first-place finishes, four second places, and one third-place to finish second place as a team, one point behind the Thief River Falls Prowlers at the Northwest Quadrangular Girl’s Tennis Tournament in Crookston. “It was a beautiful day,” said Pirate Coach Sue Tiedemann. “It was a great day to play tennis, and we played a lot of good tennis today.”

Crookston had two doubles teams finish in first place.  The first doubles team with the sister duo of Hayden and Halle Winjum won all three of their matches in straight sets. “They had a great day and did a lot more than I was expecting of them,” said Coach Tiedemann. “They played some outstanding doubles teams and played well.  They keep improving, and that is great to see.”

The second doubles team of Halle Bruggeman, Kaylie Clauson, and Abby Borowicz won two matches and lost one, but won the tie-breaker to finish first place. “Kaylie Clauson and Halle Bruggeman played great.  It was the best I have seen those two play together,” said Coach Tiedemann. “Because of an injury, we brought Abby in, and she played well with Kaylie, and they played two good matches.”

Crookston had four second-place finishes.  Emma Osborn won two matches and lost one to finish second place at first single. “Emma had a great day, and I was proud of her,” said Coach Tiedemann. “Emma lost her first set against East Grand Forks, and she battled and came back to win in a tie-breaker, and I was proud of her.”

Brekken Tull played second singles and won two matches and lost one to finish second.  “Brekken moved up to second singles and had a nice win against Moorhead,” said Coach Tiedemann. “She played well against some good competition, and that was great to see.”

Isabelle Smith finished second place while winning two of her matches at fourth singles at the Highland Courts. “Isabelle played well, and it was nice to see her get a couple of wins today,” said Coach Tiedemann.  “She is a solid player, and in her loss, she was right there.”

The third doubles team of Hannah Lindemoen and Morgan Nelson won two matches and finished second. “They played well and beat East Grand Forks and Moorhead,” said Coach Tiedemann. “They have been playing well together and ran into a pretty good Thief River Falls team and played well in that match too.”

Crookston will travel to Grand Forks and play the Thief River Falls Prowlers at Choice Fitness on Thursday.
