The Crookston Pirates Girl’s Tennis team was missing three players in their starting line up but continue to show off their depth with a 5-2 victory over the Park Rapids Panthers in a Section 8A matchup in Park Rapids.
Singles
Crookston won two of the four singles matches. At first singles, Catherine Tiedemann ran into an outstanding player in Abby Morris and lost in straight sets. Emma Osborn continues her outstanding play and showed some grit in her match. She lost 7-6 and 7-5 in the tie-breaker before winning the next two sets 6-3, 6-3 to earn the win. Brekken Tull had another rollercoaster match with a 6-0 win in the first set, a 6-1 loss in the second set before she won the third set 6-4 for the victory.
At fourth singles, Crookston eighth-grader Addie Fee was playing her first varsity singles match and won the first set 6-2, but lost the next two sets.
Doubles –
Crookston swept all three doubles matches. At first dubs, Hannah Lindemoen and Abby Borowicz cruised to a victory while outscoring their opponents 12-2. The second doubles team of Halle Bruggeman and Emma Gunderson won a hard-fought match 6-4, 7-5. At third doubles, Macy Fee and Isabelle Smith won 6-4, 6-4.
Crookston improves to 8-1 on the year and will travel to Thief River Falls on Tuesday and wrap up the regular season on Saturday, October 3 at Roseau. The Section 8A Girls Tennis tournament will start Tuesday, October 6. For the Section 8A Girls Tennis tournament schedule click here.
