CROOKSTON GIRL’S TENNIS BEATS PARK RAPIDS AND ROSEAU

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Tennis team won all four singles matches and the first doubles match in a 5-2 victory over the Park Rapids Panthers and swept the singles matches in a 4-3 victory over the Roseau Rams in a pair of Section 8A matches played in Crookston.

CROOKSTON VS PARK RAPIDS
Crookston had wins from Catherine Tiedemann, Emma Borowicz, Emma Osborn, and Emma Gunderson to sweep the singles matches. “The girls were excited to come out and had a positive attitude and it showed today,” said Pirate Coach Brekken. “It worked well with the singles line up going that way and they all played well today.”

The lone doubles victory came from the Winjum sisters, Hayden and Halle. “They loved it and played well,” said Coach Brekken. “They are both smart players and seemed to enjoy playing with each other.”
The win was a good win and will help at section seeding time. “I was happy with the way the girls came out today,” said Coach Brekken. “They played hard and using a little bit of a different line up was nice because we will need to look at all our line ups in the section tournament.”

CROOKSTON VS ROSEAU
Crookston went with a strong singles line up and Roseau elected to go with a strong doubles line up and Crookston won the match by winning all four singles matches for a 4-3 victory.
Catherine Tiedemann, Hayden Winjum, Halle Winjum and Emma Osborn all won their singles matches in straight sets.  “Everybody had to step up and play the way they were capable,” said Coach Brekken. “The girls were strong from top to bottom and that was nice to see.”  The Crookston doubles line up was a little different than the team has used this year because Emma Borowicz and Eden Haller weren’t in the lineup, but coach Brekken was pleased with the team’s effort. “We were missing Emma and Eden from the lineup and a couple girls stepped up and played well so that was nice to see.”
Crookston picked up two big section wins before the seeding meeting. “They were two crucial wins for us,” said Coach Brekken. “We have one more match against Bemidji and we are looking pretty good as we get ready for the section tournament.”
Crookston will wrap up the regular season with a match against Bemidji at Choice Fitness in Grand Forks on Tuesday.
