The Crookston Gun Club will be hosting a permit to carry firearm course on Saturday, September 25, beginning at 8:00 a.m. The lead instructors for the course will be Crookston Police Department Lieutenant Darin Selzler and Nathan Rasch of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Selzler and Rasch own and run Warrior Firearms Training LLC and do multiple permit to carry firearm courses each year.
Selzler talked about what will be happening on the day of the course and provided some information for people who are interested. “Every year, we partner with the Crookston Gun Club and do around three to four classes a year out there,” said Selzler. “The class will start at 8:00 a.m. and is $100 to sign up. The first approximately three hours of the class is spent in the classroom going over legal logistics.”
The course will move outside in the afternoon, where students will shoot at practice targets on the range. Selzler talked more about the afternoon portion of the class. “We have a live-fire exercise, and generally, that’s about 30 rounds of ammunition per person,” said Selzler. “We’re just making sure you know your firearm, how to operate it safely, and that you show proficiency.”
Warrior Firearms Training has never had a student fail their course, and Selzler said they are committed to taking the necessary time to help each individual. Selzler also said they pride themselves on making sure their students know the rules and regulations of having a permit to carry once they leave the course. “We pride ourselves on teaching our students what they need to know when it comes to where you can and can’t carry a firearm with a permit,” said Selzler.
Selzler explained who is eligible for the class and the requirements that need to be met. “To take the course, you must be 20 years old, and to carry in Minnesota, you have to be 21 years old,” said Selzer. “When you complete our course, you receive a certificate that is good for one year. So, you could be twenty when you take our course, and then after you turn 21, you could still apply for your permit as long as it’s within the one year from taking our course.”
The class is for anyone who meets those restrictions, regardless of if you have any experience with a firearm or not. Warrior Firearms Training does ask that anyone attending the class brings their own firearm to use, but if that is not an option for some, they do have firearms available for their students to borrow.
The Crookston Gun Club is located at 26251 240th Street Southwest in Crookston. Please contact Darin Selzler at 218-289-2825 or email warriorfirearmstraining@hotmail.com to register.
