HOMECOMING WEEK FOR CROOKSTON HIGH SCHOOL KICKS OFF TOMORROW

The Crookston High School’s Homecoming activities will take place this week, September 20-24. All activities are planned to go on as scheduled, including the homecoming dance on Friday night, September 24, from 9:30-11:30 p.m. inside the Crookston High School.

Crookston High School Student Council Advisor Linda Morgan explained more of what will be happening earlier in the week this year. “It’s so nice to have hopefully a regular homecoming this year after last year, so we’ve been working very hard on it,” said Morgan. “Monday will have the coronation of the Homecoming King and Queen, and we have our ten candidates for that. It’s also Jersey Day, so students will be asked to wear their favorite jersey that day.”

The Homecoming King and Queen coronation will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, and the student body of 9th and 12th graders will be invited to attend the coronation. The Homecoming court and King and Queen candidates are

Queen candidates:
Aleah Bienek, Ava Lopez, Rylee Solheim, Hayden Winjum, Clara Meyer

King candidates:
Brooks Butt, George French, Cade Deleon, Justin Lindgren, Blaine Andringa

Tuesday will be “Frat vs. Farmer Day,” a new event this year where students can pick which one, they want to dress up as. There will also be a Boys’ volleyball tournament that day beginning at 2:30 p.m. inside the gymnasium. “We have it set up right now where the Freshman will play the Juniors, and the Seniors play the Sophomores in the first round,” said Morgan. “The winner of the tournament will also get the chance to play against the staff.”

It will be an assembly schedule that day, allowing students to get out of class 45 minutes earlier than usual so they can have some fun. Wednesday’s big activity will be the Powder Puff Football game for the girl’s 9th through 12th grade, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Crookston High School Football field. Student Council Vice President Mackenzie Aamoth will participate in the Powder Puff game for the first time this year. She was able to provide what her strategy would be to help the Juniors take home the victory. “I don’t know much about football, but I’m planning on catching the ball and seeing how things turn out for us,” said Aamoth.

Thursday, according to Morgan, is a favorite as it will be Color Wars Day. Morgan explained what color each grade will be expected to wear this year. “The kids just love this one,” said Morgan. “The staff will be an Orange Rust, 7th grade will be green, 8th grade will wear yellow, 9th grade red, 10th grade is going to be blue, 11th grade white, and 12th grade will be black this year. With this, they’ll also get to dress up their hallways where their lockers are at.”

Friday is once again the big day this year, as it is Pirate Pride Day, and students can wear Pirate jerseys or clothing. “We’re doing an assembly schedule again that day, and we’re going to have a Pepfest at 2:30,” said Morgan. “With that, we have four different sports that will be participating in it, and it will be a fun get-together in the gym.”

Student Council President and Crookston High School Senior Claire Oman said that Pepfest is her favorite time of the week. “I’m most excited for Pepfest and seeing all the different Lip Sync Battles,” said Oman. “It’s always enjoyable to have everyone watch while that’s going on.”

The week will end with the Crookston Football team Hosting Frazee at 6:00 p.m. Friday night, and then a Homecoming dance that will take place at 9:30 p.m. inside the High School. Oman talked about being able to have one last Homecoming Dance. “It feels good to be able to have one, it may not have gone the way everyone wanted it to, but it’s nice to know Student Council made ourselves heard,” said Oman. “Now we get to do what we’ve wanted to do for our last year and have a lot of fun together one last time.”
