CROOKSTON HOSTING TWO HOCKEY TOURNAMENTS THIS WEEKEND

The Crookston Visitors Bureau is working with the Crookston Park and Rec Department and Crookston Blue Line Club in preparing for two youth hockey tournaments being held at the Crookston Sports Center.

Crookston will host the 15U A Olympic Regional Girls Hockey Tournament with six teams competing, and they will also host the Squirt A District tournament, with both being held March 3-5.

The groups have been trying to plan events or opportunities for these visitors to do during the downtime between games.
“There will be some events coming, we will obviously have hockey events, and then we’re looking at doing a spaghetti feed at the Crookston Inn on the fourth and things around the rink,” said Crookston Park and Rec Director Jake Solberg. “The Crookston Community Pool should be open at times; we’re looking at opening some times for kids to go swim when they have an opportunity to.”
The Crookston hotels are full of hockey guests this weekend.

Crookston Park and Recreation have purchased visitor bags to be given to every hockey player competing in the tournaments.  Around 160 hockey players will be competing in the tournaments, and with the addition of family and friends coming to watch, the number of guests could exceed 500. To help with this, the Visitor’s Bureau is asking area businesses if they would like to offer coupon deals at their place of business, which would be included in the bags that are handed out.
“Our town should be busy, and hopefully, our little economy in our town, stores, restaurants, gas stations, and stuff will be ready to go,” said Solberg.

A flyer of the games and schedule of the Squirt A District tournament can be seen below-
