The Crookston American Legion Baseball team scored four runs in the fifth inning to beat Fosston 4-1 in a game played in Fosston.
Crookston only had three hits going into the fifth inning, but they exploded for five hits and four runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 4-0 lead. Jacob Miller started the inning with a single and after an out, Joe Doda doubled, Jackson Seibel singled, followed by an Alex LaFrance double and the scoring wrapped up with a Brooks Butt single for a 4-0 lead.
Fosston responded with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to get within a 4-1 deficit. The next six Crookston batters were retired and Fosston had a base runner on third in the sixth and seventh inning, but Crookston was able to get out of the jam unscathed both innings and held on for a 4-1 victory. “Both teams hit the ball hard,” said Coach Shafer. “We were able to hit it away from their guys and our pitching was pretty solid.” Jackson Seibel earned the win on the mound, only allowing one run.
Crookston earns their second win of the year and will play Win-E-Mac in an important sub-pod game on Thursday.
