The Crookston American Legion Post 20 Baseball team hosts the Wahpeton Post 20 team for a doubleheader at Jim Karn Field in Crookston.
FIRST INNING-
Wahpeton’s leadoff batter reached on an error and the second batter walked. The next three batters were retired with a flyout and two strikeouts.
The first two Crookston batters struck out before Matt Contreras blasted a fly ball over the right-center field fence (the 380 sign) for a solo home run and a 1-0 lead.
SECOND INNING-
Wahpeton was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with two strikeouts and a pop out.
Crookston was also retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a strikeout, ground out, and a fly out.
THIRD INNING –
Wahpeton’s leadoff batter reached on an error before the next two batters were retired. The next batter singled to center field to score a run and the game was tied at 1-1. The next batter was hit by a pitch and that was followed by a walk. The runners advanced on a passed ball and the next batter flew out to right field and another run scored to give Wahpeton a 2-1 lead.
The first two Crookston batters grounded out and struck out before Parker Kelly singled. The next batter popped out and the inning was over.
FOURTH INNING-
Wahpeton was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a line out, fly out, and a strikeout.
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a fly out and two strikeouts.
FIFTH INNING-
The first Wahpeton batter lined out before the next batter reached on the third Crookston error of the game. Crookston’s Contreras struck out the next two batters.
Crookston’s Isaiah Donarski led off the bottom of the inning with a walk and stole second base before moving to third base on a wild pitch. Carter Fee hit a line drive to centerfield that was caught and Donarski scored to tie the game at 2-2. After another out, Kelly singled to center field to give Crookston a 3-2 lead.
SIXTH INNING-
Wahpeton’s first two batters were hit by a pitch and walked. The runners advanced to second and third base on a passed ball. Wahpeton tried a suicide squeeze but the pitch was to high to get a bunt down and Crookston got an out in a rundown between third base and home plate for the first out of the inning. After a walk, the next batter grounded out and a run scored to tie the game at 3-3.
Crookston’s Contreras was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the inning. The next batter hit into a fielder’s choice and Wahpeton got the out at second base. A Crookston runner was caught stealing for the second out before Greyson Ecker hit the ball the opposite way down the right field line for a double. The next batter struck out and the inning was over with the teams tied at 3-3.
SEVENTH INNING-
The first two Wahpeton batters were retired before a walk and a single and they had runners at first and second base. The next batter hit a blooper into shallow right field to score a run and Wahpeton scored a run for a 4-3 lead.
Crookston’s lead off batter popped out before Cassavant singled to left field. The next batter struck out before Kelly walked. The next batter popped out and the game was over with Wahpeton winning 4-3.
Crookston drops to 1-1 on the year.

Game 2
FIRST INNING-
The first two Wahpeton batters struckout before a single and two hit batters loaded the bases. The next batter flew out for the third out of the inning.
The first two Crookston batters struck out before Matt Contreras singled. The next batter popped out and the inning was over.
SECOND INNING-
Wahpeton had a one out single and walk before the next batter reached on an error to load the bases. The next batter tripled to score three runs. The next batter grounded out to score a run for a 4-0 lead.
Crookston’s Alex Elbinger singled with one out, but the next two batters were retired.
THIRD INNING-
Wahpeton had a one out walk followed by a double to score a run for a 5-0 lead.
Crookston finally got on the board in the bottom of the inning when Ethan Lanctot walked and after a groundout, Kelly singled to score a run. Contreras followed with a double and Jay Reese tripled to score two runs. After a strikeout, Elbinger signled to score a run. Cody Demarais, and Tarek Siegle walked to load the bases. Lanctot walked to tie the game at 5-5. Miller tripled to give Crookston the eight run of the inning for an 8-5 lead.
FOURTH INNING-
Wahpeton responded in the fourth inning when they had a one out triple and a run scored when the next batter reached on an error. The next two batters walked and were hit by a pitch before a single that scored three runs to give Wahpeton a 9-8 lead. After a single scored another run they scored another run on a groundout. After a walk and a hit batter, two runs scored on an error for a 13-8 lead.
The first two Crookston batters were retired before Lucas Perala singled. The next batter was retired.
FIFTH INNING-
Wahpeton had a one out single and double to score a run and another run scored on a passed ball. After an out, another run scored on a passed ball for a 16-8 lead.
Crrookston’s Cody Demarais singled wtih one out, but the next batters were retired and Wahpeton won 16-8.
Crookston drops to 0-3 on the year.
