The Crookston American Legion Post 20 Baseball team gave up 28 runs and 20 hits while not being able to manage a hit in a 28-0 loss in five innings in a game played at Jim Karn Field.
FIRST INNING-
Thompson had a great start to the game, sending 20 batters to the plate in the top of the first inning and scoring 16 runs. The game started with a Dex Avden walk, a Tom Schumacher singled and a Kaden Loiland triple to score two runs for a 2-0 lead. Jacob Olson and Mack Michaelson walked to load the bases. Jack Krogstad singled to score a run, and two more runs scored on an error for a 5-0 lead. After the first out of the inning, Eli Schumacher singled to score a run, and RJ Anderson singled. After a pop-out for the second out of the inning, Tom Schumacher tripled to score two more runs for an 8-0 lead. After a Loiland walk, Jacob Olson tripled to score two more runs for a 10-0 lead. Michaelson reached on an error that allowed a run to score. Krogstad and Grady Loiland walked before Eli Schumacher walked to score a run for a 12-0 lead. RJ Anderson followed with a double to score two more runs. Avden tripled to score two more runs for a 16-0 lead, and the inning was finally over when the next batter grounded out. Thompson had 16 runs on eight hits and two Crookston errors.
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.
SECOND INNING-
Thompson’s Kaden Loiland singled, and the next two batters walked. A run scored, and another run scored on an error for an 18-0 lead.
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.
THIRD INNING –
Avden started things in the third inning with a single. After an out, the next two batters walked. Michaelson singled in a run, and Krogstad singled in two runs. Another run scored on an error. Back-to-back singles scored two more runs for a 24-0 lead.
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.
FOURTH INNING-
The Thompson leadoff batter reached on an error, and the next two batters singled to score a run. The next three batters also singled in runs for a 28-0 lead.
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.
FIFTH INNING-
Crookston’s Greyson Ecker came into pitch, and struck out all three Thompson batters for a 1-2-3 inning.
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion and Thompson won the game 28-0 in five innings.
Crookston ends the regular season with an 8-13 record and will play in the first round of the American Legion playoffs on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Jim Karn Field in Crookston.
