WIN-E-MAC SCORES 18 TO BEAT CROOKSTON LEGION BASEBALL

The Win-E-Mac American Legion baseball team scored early and often in an 18-5 victory over the Crookston American Legion Post 20 in a District 9 game played at Jim Karn Field in Crookston.

Win-E-Mac got things going with three runs in the top of the first inning when Emelian Hanson singled, Gavin Walker scored on a fielders choice and Remy Goodwin tripled and Fortman singled for a 3-0 lead.
Crookston responded in the bottom of the first inning when Alex LaFrance singled, advanced to second base on an error and scored on an error on the catcher and Crookston trailed 3-1 after the first inning.Crookston looked like they had something brewing in the second inning when Carter Bruggeman led off the inning with a line drive one-hopper to the left field fence for a double, but he was stranded there and Win-E-Mac held on for a 3-1 lead.

Win-E-Mac broke the game open with 12 runs in the top of the third inning. Hanson started it off with a single, Walker tripled to score the first run of the inning. Anton Hickman (to score a run) and Remy Goodwin singled and Nathan Fortman was hit by a pitch to load the bases with nobody out. With the Crookston third baseman playing on the grass, Alex Jacobson hit a chopper over his head to score two more runs for a 7-1 lead. After an out, Win-E-Mac’s Bryer Storm singled and Mason Spry added a single to score two runs and the throw home got away from the catcher to allow another run to score for a 10-1 lead. Walker laced a line drive to right-center field to score two more runs for a 12-1 lead. The trend of Win-E-Mac crushing the ball continued when Goodwin laced a line drive one-hopper to the left field fence to score two more runs for a 14-1 lead. The final scoring of the inning came when Fortman singled to right field to score the 12th run of the inning for a 15-1 lead.

In the top of the fourth inning, Win-E-Mac had two runners on and Hickman smashed the ball for a single to score a run for a 16-1 lead.

Crookston woke up the bats in the bottom of the fourth inning and it all started with a Brooks Butt stand-up triple. Butt scored a few pitches later on a wild pitch. Carter Bruggeman walked, Kaleb Thingelstad singled to right field and Bruggeman scored on a wild pitch. Brady Butt walked and Alex LaFrance was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jade Selzler walked to score a run and after an out, Blake Fee drew a walk to score another run and Crookston trailed 16-5 through four innings.

Win-E-Mac added two insurance runs in the top of the fifth inning to take an 18-5 lead and held on to win by the same score in five innings.
