The Crookston American Legion Post 20 Baseball team struggled in a 13-1 loss in five innings and played a little better in a 9-4 loss to the two-time defending Region 9 Division II champion Stephen-Argyle Legion team in a doubleheader played at Jim Karn Field in Crookston.
Game 1 –
In the first game, Stephen-Argyle opened up the scoring in the top of the second inning when they scored six runs. Ashton Safranski and Isaac Durand got things started with back-to-back doubles which was followed by a Crookston error, another single and another Crookston error. After an out, Stephen-Argyle’s Collin Neuschwander walked and Hunter Yutrzenka tripled for a 6-0 lead.
Stephen-Argyle added five more runs in the top of the third inning when Mike Jacobson singled, the next batter was hit by a pitch and Ty Winge reached on an error. The next batter grounded out and Neuschwander walked, Yutrzenka singled and Dawson Feuillerat hit a grand slam to give Stephen-Argyle an 11-0 lead.
Crookston got on the board in the bottom of the third inning when Brady Butt walked and Joe Doda had a hit and Butt scored on an error and Crookston trailed 11-1.
Stephen-Argyle added some insurance runs in the top of the fifth inning and held on to win the game 13-1 in five innings.

Game 2 –
Stephen-Argyle struck early in the second game of the doubleheader when they pieced together a bunch of hits and scored six runs to take a 6-0 lead.
They added two more runs in the second inning for a commanding 8-0 lead.
Crookston got on the board in the bottom of the second inning when Blake Fee reached on an error, advanced to second base on a wild pitch and moved to third on another wild pitch and scored on a throwing error and Crookston trailed 8-1 after two innings.
Crookston added more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Joe Doda led off the inning with a single and after a strikeout, Alex LaFrance was hit by a pitch, Brooks Butt singled and a run scored. Blake Fee, with runners at second and third base, grounded out to second base to score a run and Gavin Salem singled to score the third run of the inning and Crookston trailed 8-4.
Stephen-Argyle added another run in the top of the fourth inning to expand their lead to 9-4.
Stephen-Argyle held on the rest of the way and beat Crookston 9-4 to complete the sweep.
Crookston drops to 4-4 on the year.
