CROOKSTON PARK BOARD DISCUSSES SPRUCING UP THE ARENA, AND GOOD POOL USAGE

The Crookston Park Board met on Tuesday afternoon at Crookston City Hall and discussed adding more color to the white walls of the arena, and they received a good report on the usage of the Crookston Community Pool.

SPRUCING UP THE WALLS AT THE CROOKSTON SPORTS CENTER
The Univesity of Minnesota Crookston, one of the entities that rent the Crookston Sports Center, contacted Crookston Park and Rec Director Jake Solberg about adding some branding and logos to the walls at the arena. “I had a meeting with UMC staff and marketing crew, and they are looking at branding at the arena as it is the Club Hockey team’s home,” said Solberg. “They are looking at the west wall, around their locker room, and some areas around the rink to see players and logos and make it look more like a home rink for them.”

The park board members said they would like to discuss ideas for all people involved. Major tenants/renters of the facility are the Crookston High School, Crookston Blue Line Club, UMC, Crookston Figure Skating Club, and others. “We want to spice up the rink because we have a lot of white walls, and we want people to walk in and look at the rink and say, wow, this is amazing,” said Solberg. “It was a good conversation, and I think there will be some good ideas moving forward. I am excited to see UMC’s decals, and maybe this will get the ball rolling with the school and youth hockey. This is in the early stages but exciting.”

CROOKSTON COMMUNITY POOL USAGE UP
Carol Gregg, a Crookston Community Pool supporter, thanked the Park Board for their work on the pool and said she is part of a group looking to fundraise to help cover some costs associated with operating the pool. They are in the early fundraising stages but will hold a swimathon this spring.

Solberg told the board that the pool had been operating well, and the usage was up significantly in February. “Right now, our pool is running well,” said Solberg. “Water clarity and chemical balance, lifeguards, advertising, and things like that we have done. We have had 632 users already this month.”
Solberg credited Scott Butt and Andrea Prudhomme for helping make sure the pool is running smoothly and getting the word out.

SUMMER ACTIVITIES REGISTRATION COMING SOON
The Crookston Park and Rec Summer Funfinder will be out on Monday, April 1, with registration beginning at the same time.
