The Crookston Pirate Baseball team ran into a very good Hillsboro/Central Valley team and lost 13-3 at Jim Karn Field in Crookston.
Hillsboro started the game with a strikeout, but the batter reached on a wild pitch, then stole second base and scored on a ground out for a 1-0 lead after the first inning.
Hillsboro added three more runs in the second inning behind four hits for a 4-0 lead after two innings.
In the third inning, Hillsboro added another run behind two more hits and a walk for a 5-0 lead.
Crookston held Hillsboro scoreless in the top of the fourth inning and Crookston finally scored their first run of the game when Brady Butt led off with a double and came into score on a Walker Winjum single and Crookston trailed 4-1.
Hillsboro answered with four runs in the fifth inning for an 8-1 lead. Crookston countered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning when Joe Doda walked and Leyton Salentine reached on an error. After a Pirate strikeout for the second out of the inning, Brady Butt doubled in a run and another run came into score later in the inning and the Pirates trailed 8-3.
Hillsboro added a run in the sixth inning and three more insurance runs in the seventh inning for a 13-3 lead. Crookston was retired in order in the bottom of the seventh inning and Hillsboro held on for the 13-3 victory.
Crookston drops to 1-4 on the year and will host a Win-E-Mac and Sacred Heart on Thursday.
