CROOKSTON PIRATE BOY’S GOLF FINISH 5TH AT ‘PRE’ SUB-SECTION MEET AT MINAKWA

The Crookston Pirate Boy’s Golf team shot a 354 and finished fifth out of seven teams at the Pre North Sub-Section 8AA Meet at the Minakwa Golf Club in Crookston.  Roseau won the meet with a 308, 26 strokes better than Hawley.  The meet is a tune-up for the North Sub-Section 8AA meet on June 1 at Minakwa. The teams battled tough pin placements and wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour.  “The purpose of the pre sub-section was to let all the other schools in the North Sub-section play the course,” said Pirate Coach Steve Kofoed. “The scores reflected the fact that the wind was beating the kids up a little bit today.”

Jaxon Wang led the Pirates with an 84 with one birdie, three pars, 13 bogies, and one double bogey.  The 84 was good for a seventh place finish individually and his best score of season, edging his previous best of 86 at Fergus Falls a month ago.  “He stumbled a bit on the way in and had a chance to break 80 with a couple of holes left,” said Coach Kofoed. “That was a good score for Jaxon and he played well.”

Kaleb Thingelstad tuned in a solid 86. Kaleb had one birdie, six pars, seven bogies, two double bogies, and two triple bogies for his 15th place finish.  “He had a decent round today even though he had a few big numbers,” said Coach Kofoed. “It was a tough day, but he found ways to have some good scores.”

Gavin Anderson shot a career best 91. Gavin had a birdie, four pars, seven bogies, three double bogies, and three triple bogies.  “He has been on a consistent find a way to a better score on each hole,” Coach Kofoed. “He had a great first four or five holes and continued to play solid throughout the round and that is great to see.”

Blaine Andringa shot a 93. “He started rough and found a way to string a good stretch in the middle,” said Coach Kofoed. “His 93 was a good score after the way he started.”

Ashton Shockman shot a 99. “Ashton had a couple of holes that really hurt him today,” said Coach Kofoed. “He would have liked a better score, but the wind took a toll on him today and caused a couple big holes.”

Garret Fischer shot a 106. “Garret also had a few holes that really hurt him today,” said Coach Kofoed. “It was tough with the wind, but he knows what he needs to do before the sub-section meet.”
