Crookston Pirate Boys Hockey routs Princeton, Garrett Fischer scores 100th career point

The Crookston Pirate Boys Hockey team

FIRST PERIOD
The Pirates looked to get off to a hot start, but nobody recorded a shot on goal for the first 3 minutes of the game. However, in the 5th minute, things began to open up for the Pirates, as Masen Reitmeier scored on a pass to the slot, giving the Pirates an early 1-0 lead. That would balloon very quickly, as just 63 seconds later, Greyson Ecker scored on a beautiful pass, and the Pirates had a 2-0 lead. The, exactly 100 seconds later, Isaiah Donarski sniped one from the blue line, giving the Pirates a 3-0 lead and forcing a Tiger timeout. Out of the timeout, Princeton’s defense played a lot better, preventing many more shot attempts from the Pirates. However, the last two shots went in. Jay Reese scored on the power play, and the assist by Garrett Fischer gave him 100 points for his career. Reese would score again in the final minute, giving Crookston a 5-0 lead at the end of the first period.

SECOND PERIOD
In the second period, the Tigers played much better. Zachary Ennis, the Tiger goalie, allowed 5 goals on 10 shots in the first period, but made 11 saves on 12 shots in the second period, a much improved metric. The one shot that beat him came from Garrett Fischer, who fired one top shelf for his 101st career point, giving the Pirates a 6-0 lead. It looked as if the Pirates would take that lead all the way into the locker room for the second intermission, but a late slashing penalty gave the Tigers a power play. This allowed Mason Clark to put away a rebound with 17 seconds to go in the period, allowing the Tigers to cut the lead to 6-1 at the end of the period.

THIRD PERIOD
In the third period, the pace slowed down significantly. The Pirates began to get more reserves into the game, by putting them with one member of the top line. After both teams committed a penalty, Greyson Ecker broke free for a 4-on-4 breakaway goal, giving the Pirates a 7-1 lead and sending the game into running time. The Pirates got one more goal from Garrett Fischer, giving everyone on the top line two goals on the day, and the Pirates were able to coast to an easy 8-1 victory.

Crookston improves to 6-0-1 on the year and will play Thief River Falls on Monday.
JV – Princeton won 13-4
