Crookston Pirate Boys Soccer shutout by Grand Forks Central

The Crookston Pirates boys soccer team played well defensively, but couldn’t score in a 1-0 loss to the Grand Forks Central Knights in a game played at KROX Radio Stadium in Crookston.

FIRST HALF –
Neither team allowed anything offensively, with fewer than nine shots taken by both sides combined. Grand Forks Central’s only chance came with 24 minutes left in the first, as Nabi Ouedraogo passed in front of the net to Joe Kleven, who put a shot on goal. Reggie Winjum slid across to negate the score and kept us tied at 0-0. Crookston did not have many chances offensively, with Tony Elbinger recording one of Crookston’s two first-half shots. Both teams played keep away in midfield until time ran out on the half, tied at 0-0.

SECOND HALF –
Grand Forks Central controlled play in the second half, recording another six shots on goal. Reggie Winjum made a tremendous save early in the half when Brady Kirkeyby passed the ball in front of the net. He was trying to find Zakariya Mohamed, but a sliding Reggie Winjum took away the chance. The Knights wouldn’t be deterred, earning another opportunity shortly afterwards. Dalvin Samuel took the ball out wide to the corner before passing it. Brady Kirkeby beat Reggie Winjum on a 50/50 ball, and bounced it in off his chest for the score. Crookston wouldn’t get another offensive opportunity, and the Knights defeated the Pirates 1-0.

Crookston falls to 0-4-1, and will host Watertown-Mayer on Saturday, September 13 at 1:00 PM. Grand Forks Central improves to 2-2-4.
