Crookston Pirate Boys Soccer loses penultimate game of season to St. John’s Prep

The Crookston Pirate Boys Soccer team couldn’t keep up with the St. John’s Prep Johnnies on Tuesday, falling by a score of 9-1.

FIRST HALF –
The Johnnies were celebrating their senior day during this game, so for the first few minutes, a combination of starters and reserves played, and the Pirates were able to get a few shots on goal in the period, but they were all saved by Zach Henry. After the Johnnies made a change to their normal lineup, they began firing on all cylinders, and put ample amounts of pressure on the Pirate defense. Shay Richter was the main culprit, getting a hat trick in the first half alone, and with two other teammates behind him, the Johnnies took a commanding 5-0 lead into the second half.

SECOND HALF –
In the second half, the starters for the Johnnies got a bit more run, and Shay Richter scored his fourth goal of the game, along with two from Hendrick Schulde. The Pirates would not go down quietly, though; they played hard for every single minute of the game, and their hard work was finally rewarded in the final few minutes, as Aaron Gosse was awarded a free kick in the box and found Masen Lessard for a great goal, adding a highlight to what was otherwise a tough day, as the Pirates fell to the Johnnies by a score of 9-1.

Crookston falls to 1-10 on the year and they will take on Detroit Lakes in their final game of the regular season on Thursday, while St. John’s Prep improves to 10-2.
