Crookston Pirate Boys Tennis beats Moorhead

The Crookston Pirate Boys Tennis team won all four singles matches to beat the Moorhead Spuds 4-3 in a dual in Moorhead.

Crookston dominated the singles to win all four of the matches. At first singles, Reggie Winjum lost the first set 6-1. The loss didn’t phase Winjum as he bounced back to dominate the rest of the match to win the second set 6-1. It came down to the third set and Winjum continued his dominance to win 6-0.
At second singles, Grant Funk had a competitive match and won the first set 6-3. Funk had another competitive set as he came up with big points and won the second set 6-3 to win his match.
The third and fourth singles matches were more of the same for the Pirates as Gunnar Groven and Sam Widseth continued to show Crookston’s depth as they won their matches in dominating fashion while outscoring their opponents by a 24-1 score! Groven won his match at third singles 6-0, 6-1. Widseth was dominant once again with a 6-0, 6-0 victory and a Pirate sweep at singles.

Moorhead won all three doubles matches as Crookston had a different lineup than they usually use. At first doubles, Jack Everett and Alex Zammert teamed up and ran into a very good Moorhead first-doubles team and fell 6-0, 6-2.
The Pirate second doubles team of Colton Osborn and Hudson Rick won the first set 6-3, but Moorhead bounced back to win the second set 6-2. Moorhead also won the third set 6-1.
The Pirate doubles team of Ean Deleon and Michael Deng teamed up for the first time in a varsity match and lost a heartbreaker in the first set 7-5. Moorhead won the second set 6-1 and the Pirates won the overall team score 4-3.

Crookston improves to 7-5 on the year and will host the Northwest Quad on Wednesday. Moorhead drops to 3-8 on the year.
