The Crookston Pirate Boys Tennis team won two doubles matches and one singles match, but the Thief River Falls Prowlers won three singles and one doubles match to win the big Section 8A dual to wrap up the regular season.
Thief River Falls won first, second, and third singles. At first singles, TRF’s Jett Cornelius won a hard-fought match over Crookston’s Reggie Winjum 6-4, 6-3.
The second singles match was the only three-set match played. Crookston’s Grant Funk won the first set 6-4. TRF’s Spencer Hempel won the second set 6-4 to force a third set and it was a dandy. Hempel was able to outlast Funk to win 11-9 to win the match.
The third singles match was another battle. TRF’s Lucas Rantanen won a tight 7-5 set and went on to win the second set 6-3.
Crookston’s lone singles win came at fourth singles with the always dependant Sam Widseth picking up an impressive 6-2, 6-2 victory.
The doubles matches weren’t as close as the singles. Crookston won first doubles with Jack Everett and Hudson Rick dominating the match 6-2, 6-3.
The third singles match was also won by Crookston’s Sawyer Anderson and Teagen Lubinski with ease with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
TRF won the second set 6-3, 6-1 and won the match 4-3.
Crookston drops to 10-8 on the year and will play in the first round of the Section 8A Boys Tennis Tournament on Monday.
