PIRATE BOY’S TRACK TAKES FOURTH AT 19 TEAM ADA-BORUP INVITATIONAL

The Crookston Pirate Boy’s Track team finished in fourth place out of nineteen teams in the Ada-Borup/Norman County West Cougar Invitational at the Ada-Borup High School in Ada. The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Track team did not participate as they prepare for the State True Team Meet on Saturday. Thief River Falls was the top boy’s team with a 91, with the Pirates’ 59 points good for fourth place. East Grand Forks’ girl’s team finished in first place with 122 points, ten points better than runner-up Thief River Falls.

Noah Kiel and Sam Sanchez led Crookston with first-place finishes. Kiel continued his strong season as the sprinter took first place in the 200 meters with a time of 23.16 seconds. “He’s been running the 200 very well as of late,” said Crookston head coach Wayne Folkers. “It seems to be his favorite race, and he’s running that really well.” Sanchez was the Pirates’ other first-place finisher winning in the shot put with a throw of 48-10 feet. “Sam has just worked his tail off,” added Folkers. “I’ve been talking about him for a couple of weeks, and he just had some nice throws again today. He’s a kid who pumps himself up and is very internally motivated.”
The 4×800 meter relay team of Jaden Lubarski, Andrew MacGregor, Karsten Isaacson, and Ben Brantner combined for a finish in 9:35.71 second to take second place in the event. “We’re probably 45-seconds faster than where we’ve been running it,” added Folkers. “We had a little talk about getting after it and being aggressive, and they did a nice job today.”
The relay teams continued to excel in the 4×100 where Brady Wisk, Jacob Brunelle. Sam Overgaard, and Noah Kiel finished in 46.83 seconds for third place. “We’re still trying to work on those handoffs,” explained Folkers. “We’re just not getting it, but I’ve got new kids in it this year and their times keep dropping. Hopefully, we can hit our handoffs and advance into Sections at least.”
Noah Kiel claimed fourth place in the 100 meters with a time of 11.57. “(Noah) came out of the blocks a little slow, but I know that he’s going to push for that as well (as the 200 meters),” noted Folkers.
The Pirates final top-four finish came from the 4×200 relay team of Brady Wisk, Jacob Brunelle, Sam Overgaard, and Easton Tangquist who ran in 1:42.33 for another four place finish. “I’m very happy with today’s meet,” summarized Folkers. “We had some (personal records), and the kids are excited to get to Sub-Sections next week. We’re looking forward to that and looking forward to having a good week of practice.”

The Pirate Boy’s will return to the track for the Sub-Section 31A Meet next Thursday in Warren at 3:00 p.m. The Pirate Girl’s will compete in the State True Team meet on Saturday in Stillwater beginning at 10:00 a.m.
