The Bagley Flyers scored on their first six drives of the game and beat the Crookston Pirate Football team 58-0 at KROX Radio Stadium in Crookston.
1st Quarter –
Bagley started the game with the ball, and quarterback Gunnar Nolan carried the ball for 16 yards and a first down. Bagley’s Micah Tramm ran for two yards, and after an incomplete pass, Nolan ran for 10 yards and another first down. Bagley had an offside penalty followed by a delay of game for a first down and 30 situation. After an incomplete pass, Shane Thompson ran for 17 yards, and Nolan ran for 13 yards for a first down. Two plays later, Nolan scored on a one-yard run for a 6-0 lead with 8:27 left in the quarter.
Crookston’s first offensive play was a 12-yard Tate Hamre run for a first down. The next two plays were a loss of seven yards. After a Hamre run of 14 yards, the Pirates went for it on a fourth down and one, and lost a yard on the play and turned it over on downs.
Bagley had a big 34-yard passing play from Nolan to Ethan Rud down to the one-yard line, setting up another one-yard Nolan touchdown for a 12-0 lead with 4:48 remaining in the quarter.
Crookston’s second play on the ensuing drive was a fumble, and Bagley recovered at the Crookston 37-yard line. Four plays later, Kamryn Thompson ran for a 19-yard touchdown for an 18-0 lead with 93 seconds left in the quarter. Crookston had a three-and-out and was forced to punt and Bagley had the ball back late in the quarter.
2nd Quarter –
Bagley moved the ball 15 yards on a Crookston pass interference call. Three plays later, Nolan ran for 12 yards and a first down, and then he scored on a one-yard run for a 24-0 lead less than a minute into the quarter.
Crookston had another three-and-out and punted. Bagley returned the ball all the way to the Pirate six-six-yard line. After a Bagley false start penalty, Rud caught a seven-yard pass and after no gain, Nolan scored on a four-yard run for a 30-0 lead with 7:08 left in the half.
Crookston ran seven plays on their next drive before they had to punt. Four plays later, Nolan threw a perfect pass down the sideline and hit Rud in stride for a 44-yard touchdown pass and a 36-0 lead, which they took into halftime.
3rd Quarter –
Crookston had a good start to the second half with a first down on the first two plays. Three plays later, Hamre completed a pass to Miko Roche, who made a fingertip grab across the middle for another first down. Crookston had the ball fourth and one, couldn’t get the first down, and turned the ball over. Bagley fumbled two plays later, and Crookston had the ball back. Crookston threw an interception two plays later. Bagley finished the quarter strong as they gained 21 yards on the first two plays of the drive before a 30-yard pass to Rud to set up a 20-yard Micah Tramm touchdown run.
Crookston threw another interception on the next series, and William Gray returned it 90 yards for a touchdown for a 50-0 lead going into the fourth quarter.
4th Quarter –
The fourth quarter was running time, and after Crookston threw its third interception of the game, Bagley had the ball back. Bagley was able to score one more time as they handed the ball to Gage Gray for a 39-yard touchdown run, giving them a 58-0 lead with 5:03 left in the game. Crookston looked like they had a touchdown pass to Jose Arriaga, but andown field penalty canceled the score, ineligible man and Bagley held on to win 58-0.
Crookston drops to 1-6 on the year and will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday when they play at Red Lake at 4:00 p.m. Bagley improves to 5-2 on the year.
