Crookston Pirate Girls Basketball uses several runs to beat Warroad

The Crookston Pirate Girls Basketball team used a big first half run and had another second half tun to beat the Warroad Warrios in a Section 8AA matchup at the Crookston High School gymnasium.

FIRST HALF –
Warroad had a solid start to the game as Olivia Tessier made a basket and Attlee Larson buried a three-pointer for a quick 5-0 lead. Warroad had a 7-3 lead five minutes into the game. Crookston settled down and picked up their offense as they responded with a 17-2 run. The run started with Chloe Boll converting a three-point play, Halle Nicholas made a free throw, Chloe added three points, Brooklyn Waldal added a basket for a 14-7 lead. After a Warroad basket, Chloe Boll added four more points and Nicholas added two points and Crookston had a 20-9 lead halfway through the half. Warroad made a basket before Grace Boll made a three-pointer to spark a 15-0 run. Waldal made back-to-back baskets before Grace Boll made another three-pointer, Chloe Boll added a three-pointer before Grace made two free throws for a 35-12 lead. Warroad scored the final four points of the half and Crookston took a 35-16 lead into halftime.

SECOND HALF –
Crookston started the second half by going on an 8-2 run. Nicholas was fouled and took an elbow to the eye and had to be taken out of the game to get looked at and Nora Groven came in to shoot her free throws. Groven made both shots before Chloe Boll added a basket for a 39-16 lead. After a Warroad basket, Waldal made two baskets for a 43-18. Crookston led 45-24 when they went on a 7-2 run with Madi Bruggeman, Grace Boll added a basket and after a Warrior basket, Grace made another three-pointer for a 52-28 lead halfway through the half. Warroad responded with an 11-4 run to get within a 56-39 deficit with five minutes remaining. Crookston ended the game on a good note and won the game by a 65-45 score.

Crookston improves to 1-3 on the year and will host Park Rapids on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.. Warroad drops to 0-5 on the year.
