CROOKSTON PIRATE GIRL’S SOCCER SUFFER SHUTOUT AGAINST FERGUS FALLS HILLCREST

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Soccer team attempted just one shot in a 9-0 loss to Fergus Falls Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in Section 8A match played in Fergus Falls.

Crookston and Hillcrest played a very competitive opening 30 minutes with the Comets generating the only scoring early in the match. In the 13th minute, Kindra Peterson scored off an assist from Alexa Ulrich giving Fergus Falls Hillcrest a 1-0 lead. The hosts would take control of the match’s momentum going into halftime. 34:00 into the match, Alexa Ulrich scored a goal of her own thanks to a pass from Anna Mayers putting Hillcrest in front 2-0. The Comets added a third goal before the break after Kindra Peterson netted her second goal of the match off a feed from Sigrid Lindaas giving the hosts a 3-0 lead at halftime.

Fergus Falls Hillcrest was dominant in the second half preventing the Pirates from mustering a single shot over the final 40 minutes while the Comets continued adding to their lead. Four minutes into the second half Alex Ulrich scored her second goal of the night giving her side a 4-0 lead. Just two minutes later Aurora Kjaegaard found Kindra Peterson for a goal as Peterson completed her hattrick. Three minutes after that, the Comets’ lead grew to 6-0 with a goal from Anna Mayers following a delivery from Alexa Ulrich. Just one minute later, Alexa Ulrich completed her hattrick with an assist from Kindra Peterson giving Fergus Falls Hillcrest a 7-0 just ten minutes into the second half. The Comets settled back until the final minutes of the match when the hosts added two more goals to close out the match. In the 74th minute, Alexa Ulrich scored her fourth goal with a pass from Ida Hannevik. Not to be outdone, Kindra Peterson scored her fourth goal of the match in the 78th minute thanks to an assist from Alivia Holmquist to close out Fergus Falls Hillcrest’s 9-0 victory over Crookston. “The score was unfortunate and didn’t need to be that way,” explained Crookston head coach Sarah Reese. “In terms of skill level, we competed, but we didn’t commit as individuals or as a team on the field to the one-hundred percent grit and effort to all 80 minutes. We need to win balls in the air and control time and spacing.”

Despite the disappointing scoreline, Reese praised the performances of two Pirates. “Joslynn Leach played her best game of the year so far. If she lost the ball she recovered, she switched fields with the ball as we have been practicing. Kenze Epema consistently plays well. She is a dynamic player who keeps the ball at her feet. Tonight she had a textbook passing combo that started on the sideline to the corner with a ball perfectly placed back to the center.”

The Pirates fall to 1-11 on the season and return to the pitch on Tuesday when Crookston hosts Pelican Rapids at 4:00 P.M. Fergus Falls Hillcrest improves to 5-4.
