CROOKSTON PIRATE GIRL’S SOCCER SHUTOUT BY DETROIT LAKES

The high flying Detroit Lakes Lakers scored a goal seven minutes into the game and added three second-half goals on their way to a 4-0 victory over the Crookston Pirate Girls Soccer team in a Section 8A matchup played at the Crookston High School soccer field in Crookston.

Detroit Lakes scored seven minutes into the game for a 1-0 lead. Detroit Lakes continued to put pressure on the Pirates the entire first half, but Crookston goalie Reese Swanson made 12 saves in the half. Detroit Lakes took their 1-0 lead into halftime. “I thought the first half was dynamite. We played a lot of the game in the middle third of the field,” said Crookston Coach Sarah Reese. “Detroit Lakes is a very good team and we were pleased with our first half.”

Detroit Lakes scored their second goal of the game seven minutes into the half for a 2-0 lead. The Lakers added two goals four minutes apart halfway through the half and held on for a 4-0 victory. “I thought we came out strong in the second half, but Detroit Lakes constantly cross the ball and they love that ball and they capitalized on their opportunities,” said Coach Reese. “Detroit Lakes is a very good team and to only give up four goals was good. We saw a lot of good things from the girls today.”
Reese Swanson made 22 saves in goal for the Pirates to keep them in the game. “Reese played phenomenal today and she was peppered with shots constantly,” said Coach Reese. “She was dynamite and did a great job for us today.”

Crookston drops to 0-5 on the year and will travel to Walker-Hackensack-Akeley on Saturday.
