THE NORTH USES DEPTH TO BEAT CROOKSTON GIRL’S SWIMMERS IN A DUAL

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s swim team lost a dual to The North (Roseau/Warroad/BGMR) 122-44 in a dual at the Crookston Community Pool.

The North won nine of the 11 varsity races to win the dual handily. Crookston’s lone wins were Victoria Proulx in the 50 Freestyle and Mackenzie Aamoth in the 100 Backstroke. “Victoria Proulx looked fantastic in her 50 freestyle.  That was a solid race and looked strong from the start to the turn to the finish,” said Pirate Coach Marley Melbye. “Kenzie looked really good in her backstroke. That has been her favorite race since the beginning.”

Naomi Olson had a second-place finish in the 500 freestyle in her first time swimming the challenging event. “She said she wanted to do the 500 two days ago in practice and so I said let’s do it,” said Coach Melbye. “She looked so good, so good off the walls, off the turns, and I couldn’t have asked for a better performance on her first time out.  She went out a little slow and then found her stride and stroke and really did well.”

Overall, the Pirates were happy with their continued improvement as they know it will be hard to win a dual this year.  “We threw some different events at the girls today,” said Coach Melbye. “It was fun to see the succes the girls had today.  We have a lot of new swimmers and they are having fun and bonding as a team and I am really proud how they are coming together.”

Crookston will travel to Park Rapids for a dual on Tuesday and host Detroit Lakes on Thursday.  The dual against Detroit Lakes will be video live-streamed on KROXAM.com and the KROX YouTube channel.
