CROOKSTON PIRATE GIRL’S SWIMMING DROPS DUAL WITH PARK RAPIDS

Madison Hoiland led the Crookston Pirate Girl’s Swimming team with two first-place finishes in a 133-46 loss to the Park Rapids Panthers in a Section 8A dual at the Crookston Community Pool.

Crookston started the meet off well with a second-place finish in the 200-meter medley relay as the team of Mackenzie Aamoth, Madison Hoiland, Claire Oman, Fallon Johnson swam in 2:32.48 to take second place. In the 50-meter freestyle, Madison Hoiland won the race with a blistering 30.84. Hoiland won her second race of the day in the 100-meter breaststroke finishing in 1:27.45. “She continues to look extremely strong in the water,” said Crookston head coach Marley Melbye of Hoiland. “She’s a great second-half swimmer and turns on that tempo and that speed at the end of the races and comes out on top.” Mackenzie Aamoth claimed second place in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 1:31.48. Aamoth added another second-place finish in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:26.93. “(Mackenzie Aamoth) continues to look great in her 100-back stroke and her 100-butterfly. The 100-butterfly is a new event to her this year, and she’s really taking on that learning, and excelling in that event.” Fallon Johnson earned a second-place finish in the 400-meter freestyle race finishing in 5:41.66.  The Pirates added one final second-place finish in the 400-meter freestyle relay as the team of Fallon Johnson, Claire Oman, Mackenzie Aamoth, and Madison Hoiland finished in 5:04.28. Claire Oman’s third-place finish in the 200-meter IM also earned praise from her head coach, “I think Claire Oman had a pretty fantastic 200-IM. She’s another one that continues to gain confidence and gain strength in her events, and I think it is going to do well. She needs to find that confidence.” Overall, Melbye was pleased with her team’s performance, “we had good races all around. Our girls are learning. They’re growing and finding their second races. The relays are coming together. It was another great learning opportunity for the girls.”

Crookston returns to the pool Tuesday, September 24 when the Pirates travel to Warroad for the Warroad-Roseau Invitational beginning at 5:30 P.M.
