NAOMI OLSON’S SIXTH PLACE FINISH IN THE 100 FLY LEADS THE PIRATES IN 8A FINALS

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Swimming team managed to qualify four girls for today’s Saturday’s Section 8A Girl’s Swimming meet in Detroit Lakes. From yesterday’s meet the top eight individuals qualify for the Section finals and a chance to go to State if they finish in the top two in each event. The ninth through sixteenth finishers are competing in today’s consolations. Naomi Olson, Mackenzie Aamoth, Chloe Boll and Claire Oman competed in multiple events.

Mackenzie Aamoth was the lone Pirate swimmer who had an individual event in the finals. She took eighth in the preliminary race on Friday, but on Saturday she improved her time by just over a full second to jump into a sixth place finish.
She also competed in the two relays with Claire Oman, Naomi Olson, and Chloe Boll. In the 200 freestyle relay, the girls improved their time by three seconds, but still finished in the seventh spot just like in the preliminary. In the 200 medley relay they improved their time by almost a half-second, but again finished in the same spot as the prelims, seventh place.

Crookston had three girls qualify in five different events in the consolation finals.
Mackenzie Aamoth improved her time by a few tenths of a second and went from 12th in the prelims to a finals finish of 10th place. She also competed in the 200 freestyle and took 15th place.
Chloe Boll also competed in two consolation finals. She took 15th in the 50 freestyle and 14th in the 100 freestyle races. Both finishes were the same spot she finished in the preliminary races.
Naomi Olson qualified for the consolation final in the tough 500 freestyle event. Naomi improved on her preliminary time by nearly seven seconds and improved her placement by one spot at 14th place.
