CROOKSTON PIRATE GIRL’S TENNIS BEATS PARK RAPIDS 6-1

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Tennis team continues to roll as they beat the Park Rapids Panthers 6-1 in a Section 8A matchup played at the Crookston High School Tennis Courts.  “The girls came out and played well and fought the rain and wind and never let that bother them,” said Pirate Coach Cody Brekken. “

SINGLES
At first singles, Crookston’s Catherine Tiedemann ran into an outstanding Park Rapids player by the name of Abby Morris.  Morris came out strong and played a great match and hit the ball hard and placed her shots well to win 6-1, 6-1. “Abby came with a good game plan and used the wind to her advantage,” said Coach Brekken. “I know that match can be much closer, but Abby played well today.”
Hayden Winjum won her second singles match 6-1, 6-0 and her younger stister Halle Winjum won her third singles match 6-1, 6-1. “They are good athletes and all-around players,” said Coach Brekken. “They have been impressive and fun to watch so far this year and play.”
Crookston’s Addie Fee won her fourth singles match 6-1, 6-2. “We have been using different people in the spot and Addie played well today,” said Coach Brekken. “We have a very deep team and it continues to show at fourth singles and third doubles.”

DOUBLES
The Pirate doubles teams dominated and won their matches by a combined 24-6 score.  “We were much-improved top to bottom today,” said Coach Brekken. “Any opportunities we had at the net they took care of and that was nice to see.  Top to bottom it was good to see.”  The first doubles team of Emma Osborn and Hannah Lindemoen played an outstanding match, winning 6-1, 6-2.  “We had a lot of power at first doubles,” said Coach Brekken. “They played well together.”
At second doubles, Halle Bruggeman and Emma Gunderson started slow, but picked up their game and cruised to a 6-4, 6-0 victory. “Those two are players that need to get the feet going and get that confidence going and when they do, they start playing well,” said Coach Brekken.
At third doubles, Abby Borowicz and Brekken Tull cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory.  “They did better with their serves today,” said Coach Brekken. “They kept the ball on the court and forced their opponents to make mistakes.”

Crookston improves to 3-0 on the year and will have their toughest test of the year on Thursday when they travel to Perham. “Perham has outstanding athletes and the top of their line up is very good and they are a deep team,” said Coach Brekken. “They will be a great test for us and it should be a fun trip.”
