CROOKSTON PIRATE WRESTLERS DOWNED BY SOLID TRF TEAM

The Crookston Pirate Wrestling team gave up to many pins as the Thief River Falls Prowlers won a dual 46-28 at the Crookston High School Gym.  

CROOKSTON vs THIEF RIVER FALLS
Thief River Falls started with a pin at 106 pounds for a 6-0 lead.  Evin Trudeau was next at 113 pounds, which was an entertaining and hard-fought match.  Trudeau trailed 2-1 after the first period, and a flurry early in the second period gave Trudeau two points for a reversal for a 3-2 lead, but Landen Larson countered with a reversal of his own to take a 4-3. Halfway through the third period, Evin cut Larson loose and gave up a point but immediately countered with a takedown to tie the match at 5-5.  Nobody scored the rest of the period to force a sudden victory period. In the one-minute sudden victory (overtime) period, it looked like Trudeau had what looked to be a takedown before Larson was able to fight it off.  Larson countered with a shot and almost got the takedown, but Trudeau had a tremendous move to bring Larson down for a takedown to win the match 7-5.
Thief River Falls made quick work of the 120-pound match with a pin in 14 seconds to take a 12-3 lead.
The 126-pound match was another thriller.  Gavyn Hlucny took a 2-0 lead with a takedown.  In the second period, Hlucny looked like he was going to get pinned but twisted his way out after Noah Jacobson was awarded three nearfall points for a 3-2 lead.  Hlucny tied the match on an escape, and the score was tied 3-3 going into the third period.  Gavyn added two more points with a takedown and three near-fall points, and won the match 8-3 to bring Crookston within a 12-6 deficit. 
Thief River Falls won the 132-pound match by pin in the second period for an 18-6 lead. 
At 138 pounds, the Prowlers Kale Geiser won by a pin in the second period to give the Prowlers a 24-6 lead. 
Ethan Bowman came out strong and got a takedown that led to a pin in 42 seconds to bring Crookston within a 24-12 deficit.
At 152 pounds, Carter Coauette countered a shot with a takedown to take a 2-0 lead into the second period.  Carter added two more points early in the second period for a 4-0 lead.  He added three near-fall points for a 7-0 lead.  In the third period, Carter added another takedown and won the match by a 9-0 major decision to bring the Pirates within a 24-16 deficit.
TRF won the 160 and 170-pound matches by pin in the first period for a 36-16 lead. The Prowlers continued their winning streak with Damon Ferguson controlling the 182-pound match for a 14-5 victory and a 40-16 dual lead.
Hunter Kresl came out strong at 195 pounds and scored two points on a takedown for a 2-0 lead and a few seconds later won by a pin in 31 seconds.  Ethan Boll followed suit with an early 6-1 lead before winning by pin in 80 seconds to get within a 40-28 deficit going into the final match of the dual.
Crookston’s Riley Helgeson took a 2-1 lead into the second period, but it was TRF’s Jackson Imgram countered with a takedown and near fall points to take a 6-3 lead going into the third.  Imgram brought Helgeson down and won by a pin with 19 seconds left in the match, and Thief River Falls won the dual 46-28. 

Crookston drops to 13-4 in duals and will travel to the Thief River Falls Invitational tournament on Saturday at the Ralph Englestad Arena in Thief River Falls.  Thief River Falls improves to 16-5 in duals.
