CROOKSTON PIRATE WRESTLERS GO 3-2 AT HILLSBORO DUAL MEET

The Crookston Pirates Wrestling team opened up the season and won three matches and lost two while having five wrestlers go undefeated on the day and their 103-pounder Evin Trudeau won the pinners award by winning all five matches by pin with an average time of 1:36.  The match scores, results, and stories are below. 

CROOKSTON VS GRAFTON – 
Crookston had a great start to the season with a 48-18 victory over the Grafton Spoilers.  Evin Trudeau got things going for the Pirates with a pin in the second period to give Crookston a 6-0 lead.  Neither team had a wrestler at 113 pounds, so the next match was at 120 pounds with Gavyn Hlucney, an eighth-grader earning his first varsity victory with a pin in the second period to give the pirates a 12-0 lead.  Another Pirate was wrestling his first varsity match at 126 pounds with Lucas Perala, an eighth-grader, battling early before falling by a pin and Grafton was within a 12-6 deficit.  The Spoilers won the next match by a forfeit to tie the match.  Grafton won the 138-pound match by a pin to take an 18-12 lead.  The lead didn’t last long as the Pirate’s Casey Weiland, an eighth-grader, won by a pin in 23 seconds to tie the match at 18.  Crookston took the lead for good at 152-pounds when Carter Coauette wrestled a solid match and picked up a hard-fought 4-2 win by decision for a 21-18 lead.  Ethan Bowman picked up a win by forfeit before Spencer Ness wrestled well in a 7-1 decision victory for a 30-18 lead.  Crookston had three forfeit victories at 182, 195, and 220 for a 48-18 lead and neither team had a heavyweight wrestler and Crookston opened the season with a 48-18 victory. 

CROOKSTON vs CENTRAL CASS –
The match started at 126 pounds and Central Cass won the match by pin.  They won the 132 match by forfeit and won the next match by a pin for an 18-0 lead. Crookston got the first win of the match from Carter Coauette with a win by pin in 20-seconds.  That got the Pirates going as Ethan Bowman won by a pin in 57-seconds at 152 pounds.  Central Cass won the 160 match by pin before Layten Fuentes, Hunter Knutson, and Ethan Boll all won by pins for a 30-24 lead.  Central Cass won the 220 and heavyweight matches by forfeit to take a 36-30 lead with three matches remaining.  Evin Trudeau won at 106-pounds by a pin to tie the match, but Central Cass received six points at 113-pounds by forfeit for a 42-36 lead going into the final match.  Gavyn Hlucny won at 120 pounds, but it was by a decision and Central Cass held on for a 42-39 victory.

CROOKSTON vs LaMoure (ND) –
The match started at 132-pounds and Crookston didn’t have a wrestler at the weight so LaMoure took a 6-0 lead.  Crookston’s Braxton Volker won by a forfeit to tie the match at 6-6. Carter Coauette had another quick match as he won by a pin in 42 seconds to give the Pirates a 12-6 lead.  Ethan Bowman picked up the third win of the match with a pin in the third period and the Pirates led 18-6 after four weights.  LaMaoure answered with a win by decision at 160-pounds, a pin at 170, and a win by decision at 182 to tie the match at 18.  Ethan Boll won by pin for a 24-18 lead.  Crookston didn’t have anyone at 220 and heavyweight so LaMoure received 12 points via forfeit for a 30-24 lead.  Evin Truedeau won by a pin at 106-pounds to tie the match at 30.  LaMoure won two of the final three matches, including one by forfeit to win the match 42-36.
